Design Significance: The Kinetic Vases at Oculta México 2025 blur the line between artifact and organism. Fusing ancestral Mesoamerican ceramic techniques with subtle motion—via motors or air currents—they mimic breath, pulse, or seismic tremors. Inspired by indigenous animist beliefs, their movement becomes a form of reverence, suggesting each object has spirit and agency. Rather than treating tradition as static, the artists animate it, turning ritual into a living, responsive experience. These aren’t relics — they’re futures in motion.


How it works: The vases are composed of a spinning centre core with 6 small and big gears that rotate in spot. The smaller gears have 9 notches while the bigger gear have 18 notches spinning half as fast as the smaller gears to balance the design.
